Canada Students VISA Processing Made Faster For Four Asian Nationals

Canada Students VISA has now been made heaps easier for four nationals- India, China, Philippines, and Vietnam.

Yes, you heard it right!

Students from these four countries can now get their VISA faster than they normally would. Interested to find out more? Then, come along and we’ll tell you how.

Introduction to the Student Direct Stream (SDS)

SDS is a new and faster Canada Students VISA Processing stream issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It is supported by Scotiabank-a leading Canadian multinational bank which will provide eligible students with the opportunity to purchase a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC). This will satisfy the financial statement requirements of the SDS program.

This stream applies to students from India, China, Philippines and Vietnam who meet certain language and financial criteria. As for international students in Canada in 2017, students from these countries held a higher share.

With its existing world-class institutions, work-study permit, and other attractive policies, Canada now lures international students even more with the help of immigration consultant management software.

According to IRCC, the SDS complements the Express Entry system. Hence, the students will get a lot of benefits from this stream. With this, they will be well-placed. And, their way to permanent residence and Canadian citizenship after completing their studies will also be simpler.

However, students from any of these countries living abroad aren’t eligible for this stream. Thus, they MUST apply for a VISA from their own country.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Admission to a full-time program in a post-secondary institution such as schools, universities, institutes or CEGEP;
  2. An IELTS score with at least 6 for each ability. This includes Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking taken within the past two years;
  3. Purchase of a special Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from Scotiabank of CAD$10,000. It acts as proof to cover living expenses for the first year of stay in Canada;
  4. Proof of payment of the tuition fee for one year;
  5. Upfront medical examination at least one week before submission of the application;

Don’t meet all of these criteria?

No problem! Students can still apply through the regular Canada Students VISA  processing stream. Moreover, it is planning to extend this stream to countries in Africa. The targets are Kenya and Senegal so hopefully, students from these countries will hear the good news soon too.

According to the Immigration Minister, Ahmed Hussein, Canada needs more skilled workers and people to empower their economy. For this reason, Canada has been introducing policies to simplify the VISA processing. Also, to encourage more talented candidates to apply. The focus target is students and hence, SDS to make Canada Students VISA processing faster.

A survey by International Students Admissions Service showed that  62% of students listed Canada as their priority for higher studies. Similarly, Canada has a goal of welcoming 450,000 international students per year by 2020. So, it’s no surprise that the introduction of SDS was a well-considered move by Canada to make the Canada Students VISA Processing easier than ever.
